HOW TO BECOME A
Christian

Do you want to be a Christian? Search your heart before you answer this question? The answer that you now give to this question may very well determine the balance of your days upon this earth and your place in the life hereafter.

No one can become a Christian unless he or she wants to become a Christian. If you do desire to be a Christian, if you do desire to inherit a home in Heaven…if you do desire to shun the awfulness of hell, then you no doubt are asking the question: “What must I do to become a Christian?”

There is a very simple and brief answer to this question. There are some very simple requirements that God has for you to meet and, in meeting these requirements, you are are born again and become a Christian.

FIRST – you must realize…
the need that you have in your heart. You must understand that you are guilty of sin. I am guilty of sin, you are guilty of sin, everybody is guilty. The Bible says in Romans 3:23, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” The very fact that we have not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God means that we are condemned and are sinners because of our unbelief.

NOW – the next step…
to becoming a Christian is for you to realize that you cannot help yourself. Already you have found it impossible to turn from your sin with your own strength. You must realize also that there is nothing that you can do to free yourself from the penalty of sin. The penalty of sin is everlasting hell. You cannot buy salvation. You cannot do good works for it. Salvation does not come by trying, but by yielding. The Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9: “By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast.” No doubt you have heard the words of that grand old hymn: “What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.” Oh, how true that is; nothing that you might do; nothing that I could do for you, will cleanse you from your sin. Only the shed blood of Jesus can cleanse you. If you now see the need of being saved, and if you now have a desire to become a child of God…a Christian, then here is what you must do.

REPENT – tell God
that you are sorry and ask Him to save you. The Bible says in Romans 10:13, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

BELIEVE – the Bible says:
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life.” Right now, bow your head and say to God, “Lord, I’m sorry that I’ve sinned and I want you to save me.” Now, what did you do? You called upon His name. What did He say He would do? He said that He would save you. Do you believe that He has? If you do, you have just now accepted Christ as your own personal Savior and you have just become a Christian.

YOU ASK – “can it be that simple?”
Yes, it’s just that simple. Christ lived a sinless life and died on the cross and was buried and was resurrected. He simply tells you to believe that He died for you and to accept Him. Now that you have become a Christian, Satan will try to make you doubt it. You can know that you are saved because you have met God’s conditions. The Bible says in John 5:24, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

You may know that you are saved and now a Christian because the Bible says in John 1:12, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.” Now that you are a Christian, you must publicly confess Him as your Savior.

CONFESS – in Romans 10:9…
we read, “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” All who accept Christ and are saved must confess Christ through baptism. Peter said to those seeking to become Christians, “Repent and be baptized every one of you…”

I pray that you will respond to this opportunity to become a Christian. Write me about your decision for Christ and I shall pray for you daily.
